26 Days

I have 26 days before I leave for Ohio.

My former roomie is visiting for the next two days, she got here yesterday. It's so strange: in the four years we lived together we didn't explore much outside our apartment or the campus. We almost never tried new restaurants, or went clubbing. We did go to a few bars, but that was more a band thing than anything else. Suddenly, she's here and we decide to go out at 9pm at night. It was fun, we went down to the Riverwalk, listened to the bands, and had some really good dark chocolate fondue. We're planning on going to the capital tomorrow, and we may stay up there until the next day. I guess this is a last fling before she gets married. Did I announce my roomie is engaged? She is, and I'm a bridesmaid. It's very exciting; I've never been a bridesmaid before.

I'm working on a sock, at present. It's very close to done, but I doubt it will get there before Tuesday. Alas. I've been making very good progress on it, too. About an inch a day, which is really good when it takes 14 rows to get an inch (that's a lot).

After my roomie got here yesterday, we went to a movie: Despicable Me. It was alright, nothing to rave over. I expected it to be funnier, maybe a little more adult, but it mostly stuck with kids jokes and themes.

Just to inform the non-existent readership, I'm planning on posting something every day until I leave. Why? I'm sentimental like that? I don't know. Now the something could be anything: a picture, a limerick, a fanfiction of my own creation, a song. Hopefully I can do this, I think it'll be fun.

Until tomorrow,
Greeny

No-one is posting on my friend's list, that makes me cranky. I like to have regular new reading material. Not that I'm entitled to it, or anything, it's just fun.

Anycase, Finals are over. I did the last one yesterday. Then me and my perpetual roomie took turns ringing the bell and taking pictures of the other one ringing the bell. We also took pictures around campus (we got on the football field! :)). I went to work, and then my Older Younger Brother (OYB) took us to Dave and Buster's as our "escort" (he prefers this term to "designated driver"). It was actually a lot of fun. Getting slightly tipsy and then playing games really makes for a good evening.

Today me and the roomie went to the Senior Breakfast. I've got three more events I'll be attending: an "Official Bell Ringing" (I'm going for the alumni t-shirt), the Center for Global Education Sash Ceremony, and a honors society initiation. Hopefully, it won't be as lame as the other one I went to.

Tomorrow I graduate. As I did before leaving Vienna, I wanted to do a retrospective of sorts. Of course, this is four years of life, growth, and struggle, kinda hard to do. Thus, I give you...The differences between me and my roomie.

When we first met, I was glad to meet someone shyer than me. Turns out I wasn't shy, just inexperienced. I'm outspoken, Julie is softspoken.
I'm a carnivore by nature, Julie literally does not like meat.
I'm very adventurous about food, Julie took convincing to try non-pepperoni-and-cheese pizza.
I'm a violinist, she's a french horn player.
We're both in orchestra, but she's in marching band, too.
I plan out of fear, she plans for fun.
I'm from the country, she's from a suburb of Dallas. (The first time I took her to the largest town nearest where I'm from, she was amazed that our theater had only 8 screens).
I'm visual, I love TV, reading, writing, anything like that. She's aural, her passion is music of almost any kind. (We improvised in solfedge the other day. We love being music majors)
She's the youngest, I'm a 2nd-born. (I'm the younger of us by a month, but we both feel I'm older than her)
My hair's wavy, hers is curly. I think we both envy the other a little about that.

Seeing these differences, I can't believe that I've known and lived with this lady for almost 4 years. We met in August 2005, as we moved into our dorm room for the first time. We've gotten along because: I made her help me fill out the "Roommate agreement form" in our Campus Guide the first week we lived together. We tried to be nice to each other, and respect the other's boundaries. I left every weekend. We are both darn smart, extremely analytical, and we share the same attitude about school: This is serious stuff, do it as well as you can.

She's leaving tomorrow. I'm gonna miss the heck out of her.

Until next time,
Greeny

Good, first and foremost. I love my roomie, she is wonderful to me. We had dinner this afternoon at Ruby Tuesday. She had never been there before but we enjoyed it quite a bit. Even had dessert (chocolate cake...yum). Then she came here to meet the kitty. She also adopted a kitty over the summer, named it Sweet Potato. That poor dear, she really can't help being a cute Texan sometimes (her other orange cats are Pumpkin and Squash). I really wonder what kind of complex 'interesting' names give the recipient(s).
Finally, we went shopping for food (we can buy beer now, an interesting revelation) and watched Michael Phelps make history. I knit my requisite six rows, and did some more repairs resulting from my slight brain-deadness today. Life is good.
Roommates are also thoughtful, funny, fun-loving (she invented a new sport: Olympic beanbag tumbling), and generous (Bob the aloe plant is back, flourishing, and has a Bob-let).
School starts in a week. I'm looking forward to it, as always at the end of summer. Change and busyness are good things hand in hand.

Allons-y!
