Ow, free association hurts
Jul. 1st, 2009 02:57 pmExcuse me while I rant:
I am officially in pain. It's not worse than cramps, because cramps are not constant, and as such are not endurable. However, my lower back really hurts right now. It's the dang beds here in the dorms. They're flat as (or flatter than) pancakes, and hard. I only complain because I've doctored up my beds in the past to something reasonably comfortable. This one has no relief of any sort, and makes me think I should have packed my feather bed thingy in the box I sent here even though it's dirty. Argh. Walking is not fun, sitting is better, though right now it's not going too hot. I hate this.
/rant
Slowly but surely (excepting the back), things here are getting better. I've actually practiced my orchestra music, and because of that orchestra rehearsal was easier (on a side note, Mahler rocks, I'm apparently a sucker for bombast and dotted rhythms). After making a few rookie mistakes (sitting in the wrong place at first, going to the wrong building on Tuesday), I'm getting the hang of life at EMF. I just had my first chamber rehearsal. I'm in a string quartet, and we're playing Mozart's "Dissonance" quartet in C major (K. 465). It's fun, so far. We didn't have many problems reading through the first movement, so our main focus once notes are learned will be togetherness. Togetherness is what makes any chamber group really special. If you can truly get to understand everyone else's part and move, breathe, play together, it's magic.
I bet you're wondering about the knitting by now...well, nothing is going on. I'm seriously considering starting, but I'm worried that my wrist(s) will react badly (the left one hurts much less than before, I've been stretching and doing the hot/cold thing). Also, I get a bit obsessed sometimes when I start something new, which isn't bad, but I need to focus on music for now.
Finally, for your viewing entertainment: This sign made me free associate:

Levi: jeans
Coffin: vampires
Quadrangle: fancy name for square
Thus we have vampires in jeans staying square. -ducks- Don't hit me.
Later,
Greene

And they're stupid most of the time ("Someone called you an IDIOT! Take our test to prove it [un]true!"). Sorry, random thought there. I do wish I could rid the internet of them.
Good news, proper sleep has been happening, we'll see if it happens again tonight. It should. The practicing thing...not as much. Don't worry, I've got two people other than me on it, maybe that will produce results.
Life has been happening, much as expected, without an apocalypse or other death-bringing catastrophe. There has been school, some knitting (just wait), and plenty of music.
So, the knitting. I do believe that you (plural and singular) know about the yellow hat. I managed to knit five inches of it, and then...did not have the proper needles to continue! (The melodrama is fun, roll with me) Therefore, I went looking for them, and found them Saturday. However! I did not buy them, because they were bamboo, and I need metal ones. I continued looking for them in 2 other stores, and they (alas!) did not have them. Thus, the happy and wee little yellow hat cannot grow until(?!) I either order the elusive metal double pointed needles in US size number 7 (4.5mm) on the internet, or find them somewhere about town. It's a tough choice.
In the mean time, I've started, or tried to start, the authentic Victorian Lace for my Lit. class using an authentic Victorian pattern. This endeavor hit a major snag on the first row: typos. Now, I understand how typos happen. Heck, I've even created a few myself. But, there has to be a limit, people. Apparently, Victorian limits extend far past modern American ones. Either that, or the person who entered the pattern was brain dead at that time, and then did not use a spell check or review it before posting it. I personally think it was both.
Other than that little problem, my life is good. I am well-fed, warm, clothed, and have multiple electronic and paper things with which to amuse myself (we [me, myself, and I] are not mentioning the sticks and string on purpose).
Until next time,
Greene

Random stuff
Feb. 6th, 2009 10:22 amSo I've started a new online thingy. It's called the Dragon Cave. Basically, you adopt eggs, try to get them to hatch, and then breed them the dragons you get for fun. Getting them to hatch requires other people to view them.
This is one of my eggs. Feel free to click on it and such. It's my favorite, frankly. I have three others, two are pink and one is orange.
Here they are:
. The waiting is actually kind of fun. If you want to see them all at once, go to http://dragcave.net/user/deepgreen18.

Random Happenings
Jan. 17th, 2009 09:49 amI love melodrama, at least on paper. In real life...not so much. This has nothing to do with my actual post, feel free to ignore it.
Things have gotten interesting again. The weekend finally arrived, meaning that my roommate and I had a nice girls' night in, we watched three episodes of Roswell, drank one beer each, and I started a crocheted belt. I've had plans to make this belt since December, it feels good to actually start it. Randomly, I woke up today, and had somehow managed to move my regular covers off me while keeping the uppermost layer, which I only use in winter, firmly over me. Seriously, that kind of freaks me out, am I really that smart when I'm asleep?
Nothing to say about the formation of chamber group, it's basically stalled right now. I expect things to settle into a semi-permanent shape next week. I have researched music for it, though. This pleases me.
The belt is awesome, by the way. I'm using nylon string/yarn. I actually bought some of it in Home Depot. It can be a pain to work with (the first color, a yellow-gold, actually stained my fingers orange), but it just might last forever (a constant wish/delusion I have about clothing), so I can deal.
Bye,
Greeny

Bouncy Bouncy Bouncy....BOOM!
Nov. 17th, 2008 02:04 pmI'm full of nervous energy, and I don't know how to get rid of it! I had to meet with one of my English professors to discuss my topic for a paper. I hate meeting teachers personally. I'm either too talkative or inaudible. Today I was far too talkative. Yeesh, I need filter for my brain. I just say anything that relates (sort of) to what we are saying, and it can get awkward. It wasn't horrible, but the backlash (this thing right here) is awful.
There is not much I get overly excited about. TV and books mainly (ones I like), plus people. I'm still not used to people, any kind, really. My future is also a cause of much disquiet. I want to curse, jump up and down, make funny loud noises, and hide in my bed. I think I'll go read and listen to music. That usually calms me down.
BOOM.

The End Nears
Jul. 2nd, 2008 05:51 pmWhew! One down. One test to go. There is also the concert, but I am just playing in four things, it's no big deal. At least, that is what I am telling myself in order to not freak out. Breathe, think yoga.
I am running on six hours sleep. That must be why I am so random today. Embrace it, love it, be the randomness.
There is very litle else to tell the world, so I shall depart, floating as though upon a cloud or a really cool antigravity zone.
'Til tomorrow.
Greeny
PS. I started to type 'randomness' in my subjects thingy, but I've used it before, so I only had to type 'rand' before it popped up. This amuses me.

Jun. 25th, 2008 01:11 pmI haven't posted in two days, crazy. I blame knitting blogs. They are very good, and I am addicted, I kid you not. On Sunday, before I went to the Danube, I sat down at my computer and thought 'Just one or two, to take the edge off.' I thought this completely unironically, and only looking back on it do I realize its full import. The Yarn Harlot has won, her goal for knitters to take over the world is continuing apace, as she would say.
In homage to her, and the person she ripped off the idea from, today is a Random Wednesday. I know, isn't every day on this blog random?
1. I have just eaten the blandest ice cream since arriving in Vienna, it was from McDonalds. Its only saving grace was the mini Smarties (little chocolate candies).
2. Today is a field trip day. For German we went to the Museum of Natural History (an ode to that later :) and in ten minutes our Music History class is leaving for the Succession Building.
3. Monday was a drag, Tuesday was quite fun. Again more later. (Having made this promise, I will come back sooner than I would not having posted in the first place).
4 Tomorrow I face playing a piece I know really well in front of many people I've played in front of before. That doesn't sound that scary, now does it?
Got to go,
Greeny
