This has been said many times before, and no doubt will be again: Oklahoma weather is nuts! Bipolar, to be exact. This Monday, it was warm enough to wear a short-sleeved shirt to my orchestra concert. Then, it started raining, hard, for the past two or three days. Today, it's snowing about as hard as it was raining. The snow started about 9am this morning, and we've accumulated about four or five inches since. This is wrong. Also, I feel lucky to be alive after my somewhat harrowing journey from the apartment to the library. This week has made me really glad I bought rain boots in Florida, they've been unexpectedly well-used.
Besides the weather, life has been pretty good. I'm not the overwhelmed student who can't focus anymore, but I got sick again Tuesday (minor illness, but annoying nevertheless). Almost everything I need accomplished this week is done, and I've got today for sure to finish off the list. Believe me, I'm not driving anywhere today unless it's absolutely necessary.
My senior recital is fast approaching, as is graduation. I'm doing better at the acceptance of the inevitable. Making a comprehensive list of stuff to do in the next five weeks helped.
The 2nd sock is progressing apace. I'm past the halfway point. I'm not completely sure that the socks will match at the ends, due to insufficient continuity, but I think there will be enough yarn to finish.
Onward!

Ice and Snow
Jan. 30th, 2009 10:19 amLots of bad weather here, lately. We had an ice/snow storm starting Monday and throughout Tuesday. School was closed for two and a half days. That might be a record. Last time we had an ice storm it was during reading days and finals. Not having classes threw me off.
However, me and Julie had a fine time. We baked brownies and then muffins, watched quite a few episodes of Roswell, and I got to go play in the snow. I was invited to play soccer, so I went. First we did some impromptu sledding on a cafeteria tray and someone's skateboard (we are not equipped for cold weather around here). Very fun, if a bit terrifying. Then our soccer game lasted an hour and a half! I'm still sore. I've never played before, and I discovered that I'm much better at kicking a ball than throwing it. I managed to make a few passes, and even scored a goal!
I finally finished my dishcloth. It only took two weeks. Laziness: 1, Greeny: 0.5. It's rather pretty, and a first for me. I've never made a square dishcloth before, how odd is that? My first two were round and wavy.
One last thing, I've decided to put practicing first in my school life. That means, when I think about homework, I start with practicing, and then do my reading/writing/etc. I'm trying to be as positive about it as possible. It makes sense, considering I have lessons, orchestra, a trio, and band to practice for.
Back to school!

Well, it's not snowing
Dec. 21st, 2008 10:24 pmHowever, it is below freezing in this loverly Midwest part of the country. There was ice on the roads in the middle of the day. I almost missed band practice because of the whole going to church part of the day got skipped, but all turned out fine. The girls that I went to Twilight with (daughters of our keyboard player/singer and drummer) got me the movie poster with the star of Twilight on it as a Christmas gift. Crazy, huh? I've never gotten a movie poster before. Everyone here is getting into the Christmas thing. It's kind of fun, all things considered. I really need to go and buy my gifts.
In other news, I finished the seaming of the afghan rather quickly (while watching 4 episodes of Sanctuary). So quickly, in fact, that I'm knitting the border, starting...well...7pm today. TV makes it all go so much faster. This is my first knitted border on the largest object I have made. It's surprisingly easy and slightly boring. I should manage to get it completely done in two more days. After almost two months of dedicated effort, I may not knit for a day or two. That, or I'm so used to doing something every day I'll start a new project.
The TV watching is not coincidental to the fact that I'm home for the holidays. The apartment has been abandoned for the next three weeks. I'm happy to have a rest.
Have I ever said how interesting Rock Band is? It's an X-Box game, for those who don't know. It's basically playing fake instruments on popular rock songs of the past two or three (or four) decades. My brothers have gotten very good, scary good, on the drums. I'm an occasional player who doesn't go past the medium difficulty setting.
I should go and finish that border now.
